Master violin maker Karl Höfner founded his own stringed and
fretted instrument company in Schönbach, Germany in 1887. With a
reputation for quality, craftsmanship and innovation, Höfner soon
became the largest manufacturer of stringed and fretted instruments in
Germany. They recieved worldwide acclaim when Paul McCartney started
playing their Violin Bass and John Lennon played their Club model
guitar. To this day Höfner guitars are amung the finest instruments
you can buy, and with the introduction of the Contemporary Series, a
quality Höfner has never been more affordable.
Even in the affordable price range, this bass doesn't leave
anything to be desired. With original German hardware and pickups,
this piece plays just like the original but at a fraction of the cost.

The short scale length (30 inches) is truly comfortable and fun to play. This model, with the cutaway, is not as iconic as the "Beatle" Bass, but just as powerful, more comfortable to hold and has it's own sort of mojo. It's hip.
