Sharp Brown Sugar!
The thought for this guitar came while
we were at a NAMM show, looking at some of the options available through
Taylor's Build To Order Program. We wanted to really make something
special, unusual and relatively affordable. Mission Accomplished!
This guitar is incredible to hear and hold, while remaining stunning,
though subtle to your eyeballs.. The gloss finished Honduran Mahogany
is darkened with a reddish toner and the result is a dark burnt red
that looks brown when there's very little light, popping to a cinnamon
red when surrounded by natural light. It's really fantastic.
Again,
we wanted to make it sharp looking without costing too much, so we
opted for the Ivoroid binding around the body, fingerboard and
headstock, as well as around the soundhole edge. It's the perfect
compliment to the rich dark red. It's more subdued than bright white
and it's grained, creamy hue creates a vintage vibe on this modern
classic. The large Abalone Rosette and gold hardware are the only
fancy flourishes this guitar has visually and they are the perfect
adornment.
The other features of this guitar, in terms of
dimensions, neck shape, and such, are identical to those of a Taylor GS5, except for the popular Florentine (sharp) Cutaway.
But this guitar is far less usual than one of those. It's warm and
rich with the depth to compliment any number of instruments, be blues machine, give a
fingerstylist a lovely new bunch of colors to choose from or be amazing support for a vocalist. Mahogany is
one of our favorite tonewoods, and this guitar stands at the top, for
sure. You'll be surprised with it's power and depth and fall quickly in love with it's visual charms.
