AER felt the Alpha needed a bit of support, and a little more attention to the starting range.  Besides a facelift - a different look - a bigger cabinet and a tuned up power amp move the Alpha plus into a different league of performance.  More volume, extended headroom in combination with the Alpha simplicity.
