Roger Schmidt 10/13/2007
To say that Roger Schmidt made a profound impression on us would be the understatement of the year. We met Roger when he came to our shop wanting us to carry the Stonebridge Guitars. Obviously, we were very impressed with the guitars, but we were equally impressed with his marvelous playing. We now proudly carry Stonebridge Guitars! You might say Roger was sort of Stonebridge's ambassador to us.
California Guitar Trio 3/12/2008
The California Guitar Trio (Paul Richards, Bert Lams, and Hideyo Moriya) came to Steilberg String Instruments for a particularly special evening. The music was incredible, from their arrangement of Pink Floyd's "Echoes" to their how-in-the-world-are-they-doing-that treatment of Bach. All admission was donated to the St. Joseph Children's Home for their burgeoning music program via Star Duck Charities, a non-profit started by, among others, Steilberg's own Mick Sullivan and Joe Burchett.
Tim May 11/27/2007

With a resume that boasts playing time with John Cowan, Pat Flynn, Brad Davis, Patty Loveless, and Charlie Daniels, as well as a recent cover spread in Flatpicking Magazine, Tim May has been a very visible acoustic guitarist. However, when he came to visit Steilberg String Instruments one point was made very clear: Tim May can command an audience on his own, thank you very much. All in attendance were wowed by his immaculate tone production as well as crystalline-pure phrasing even in the fast passages that tend to break down most guitarists' element of control. Tim also showed a fantastic diversity of genres by delving into bluegrass, Celtic, and was even joined by our own Joe Burchett for a gypsy/swing number.

Richard Gilewitz Concert 10/13/2007
Hosting Richard Gilewitz is like having a holiday get-together which brings around that cousin who just kinda marches to the beat of a different drummer, always offering up those comments that are simultaneously poignant, insightful, but outrageously hilarious. We absolutely love having Richard the person and Richard the player. Here, he is pictured with the "Gilewitz 12" guitar made by Breedlove.
Will Ray Returns! 9/25/2007
When we had a chance to catch Will Ray for another concert, it was truly probably the easiest decision we've made in a while. Everyone in attendance the first time we hosted Will was amazed by his combined instrumental prowess and personable character and he certainly didn't disappoint this time around, either. Mr. Ray always brings his 'A' game that has landed him much acclaim through the years, including his work with Jerry Donahue and John Jorgensen in the Hellecasters.
Bill Frisell 4/6/2007

As an artist, Bill Frisell is held in the highest regard by musicians everywhere, not unlike Monk, Miles, or even Monroe. His unique approach to American music has put him on the world’s stage, but we wanted to see him on Louisville’s stage. On April 6th, 2007, Steilberg String Instruments partnered with The 930 Arts Center to bring Bill Frisell to town for a very rare solo guitar concert. The crowd was outstanding, and all were very happy with the treat of an evening’s worth of magic from Mr. Frisell’s fingers and mind. Being longtime fans, we couldn’t resist sharing with the community the talent that has garnered so many accolades as well as playing with the likes of Elvis Costello, Paul Motion, Lyle Mays, John Scofiled, Jerry Douglas, Danny Barnes, etc.

Will Ray Concert 2/6/2007
At Steilberg String Instruments, it should be clear how much we enjoy music. That enjoyment is only made stronger when we are able to experience the perspective of a respected musician, as when Will Ray came to town. He brought his impressive display of mindbending licks and trademark charm to our store, showing us all that he has as much fun playing his music as we have listening to it!
A Classical Christmas 12/21/2006
Todd Armstrong knows his classical guitar and has a special talent for conveying love of the art while helping studentsk to hone their musical abilities. This is why we were absolutely delighted to host Todd and two of his students, Pat Metzroth and Alan Hall, for an evening of holiday favorites arranged for classical guitar trio. We had a fantastic response as these gentlemen performed beautifully.
Teachers Concert 12/12/2006
This is always a truly special event as many of our students do not get the opportunity to check out their teachers' professional gigs. Our faculty always tries to inject something a little different in to their blend of musical styles and this year was no exception. We heard from Kathie Raymond on violin and Andrew Barnes on oboe in addition to the usual cast of Craig Wagner, Mick Sullivan, Lee Puckett, and Joe Burchett.
Banjo Mania 10/17/2006

A lot of people think a lot of things about banjos. To some, this instrument serves as the subject of all kinds of jokes. To others, banjos fill their dreams at night, creating the desire to practice every spare waking moment. Lawson Peets from Deering Banjos came to our concert room and demonstrated to a curious audience the many nuances of the banjo, including its construction and stylistic approaches to playing.

Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller 9/25/2006
We all know that when Mike Keneally and Bryan Beller come to town, we're all in for a lot of fun. There are few people out there who are really trying to push the boundaries of rock guitar and it is clear that this endeavor is an immense source of joy to both Mike and Bryan. These guys know how to rock, but they sure had a good time banging around on some of our bluegrass instruments as well!
Russell Cook Concert 8/17/2006
Hammered dulcimer virtuoso and luthier Russell Cook came to Steilberg String Instruments for a very special evening indeed. For those hammered dulcimer enthusiasts seeking to pick up some tricks, Russell oversaw an intimate workshop. Then, he dazzled our audience with a concert that demonstrated his versatility on this way cool instrument. Mr. Cook is founder of Master Works. 1

Benefit for Kentucky National Archery in the Schools Program 7/15/2006
Each year in July, a "Wild Game Cookoff" is held in the parking lot of Hunters World: Firearm Service Center and Field & Stream Archery, where many fine people gather and enjoy tasty viddles harvested from our great outdoors. A very nice guitar (Washburn D-10 Poker model signed by TED NUGENT) was donated by Steilberg String Instruments and Washburn Guitars as a raffle item to raise funds for this fine cause. Bluegrass music group Pancho and the Grandmas (two of whom teach music at our store) provided toe-tappin' testimony to this excellent event.
Wendy Waldman Concert 5/11/2006
Wendy Waldman, the internationally-acclaimed recording artist, songwriter, and record producer, brought the same charm and mastery to Steilberg String Instruments that has appealed to legions of music fans over the years. She has been a Taylor Guitars clinician for four years and was brought to Louisville by Steilberg String Instruments and Taylor Guitars. 1

Sid Jacobs Concert 4/7/2006
Through tornados and severe weather we waited, and was it ever worth the wait! Spring can get a little "interesting," shall we say, here in the Ohio River valley. But on this night, the musical spirit was unscathed as Sid Jacobs along with Steilberg String Instruments' Craig Wagner made sheer jazz guitar magic. We were all too pleased to have Jacobs, a Hofner Guitars clinician, join us for this special show. 1

Beppe Gambetta Concert/Workshop 3/7/2006
We had the pleasure of hosting Italian flatpicking virtuoso Beppe Gambetta on one of his bi-annual trips to the United States. Brought to Steilberg String Instruments with help from the good folks at Taylor Guitars, he dazzled us all with his sheer mastery of the guitar as well as his knowledge of traditional American styles. 1

Taylor Guitars Free Restring 6/6/2005
One of our more popular events, we had a couple of techs from Taylor Guitars providing free restrings and neck adjustments to all Taylor owners in attendance. And, we had a lot of Taylor owners in attendance! Later was a concert featuring Taylor clinician Artie Traum. 4

Artie Traum Concert 6/6/2005
The legendary singer-songwriter and guitarist Artie Traum brought his acoustic guitar mastery to Steilberg String Instruments as part of a double feature of sorts. Also on hand was a free restring opportunity for Taylor owners (see left). As if all this weren't enough, National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Pat Kirtley joined Artie on stage for several tunes. 1

Mike Keneally and Brian Beller 3/15/2005
Mike Keneally and Brian Beller live on the "frontiers of acoustic rock guitar." Thankfully, they journeyed to our neck of the woods and brought along some musical relics from out there. Much to our pleasure, National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion Pat Kirtley even showed up for an impromptu jam session with the guys. 1

Radim Zenkl 2/21/2005
Once again, Steilberg String Instruments was fortunate enough to host Breedlove clinician Radim Zenkl. A native of the Czech Republic who now calls the United States home, Radim has had an amazing career blending traditional European musical influences with American styles. We'd hosted Radim in the past and are repeatedly wowed by his virtuosity. 1
